2. Grub Street Writer-UW Summer Concert Series. From 11:45 AM – 1:00 PM. Denver based band, Grub Street Writer, will be performing during Summer Programs’ Summer Concert Series Wednesday, June 6 from 11:45 a.m. until 1 p.m. in Simpson Plaza.
Described as “gritty alternative-folk at its finest,” Grub Street Writer has a distinct sound that differs from other songs similar in genre. Lead by Brooklyn public defender and songwriter Andy Palmer, many of Grub Street Writer’s songs tend to lead toward the darker side of the human spirit based on the experiences Palmer had working in the trenches of Brooklyn’s underbelly. However, there is always a sense of hopefulness that aids the music’s emotional response.
“His [Andy’s] concentrated growl is a constant across a variety of structures and themes, tying epic songs to more traditional lovelorn cues,” says A.H. Goldstein of Westword.com.
Grub Street Writer has performed at such major music festivals as South by Southwest and Denver’s Westword music festival. The band has also recently been nominated as Denver’s best “roots rock” band.
