1. Mandala Sand Painting Closing Ceremony. Throughout the week, the Tibetan Monks worked on a Mandala Sand Painting in the Skylight Lounge in the lower level of the Wyoming Union. Students and faculty were encouraged to watch during the week as a group of ten monks take turns working on the Mandala Sand Painting, which comes from the artistic traditions of Tantric Buddhism. The closing ceremony for the Mandala Sand Painting will take place on Friday, Jan. 25 at 2 p.m. in the Skylight Lounge of the union.
“December 6, 2012—Friday Night Fever is hosting the Tibetan Monks from the Drepung Loseling Monastery for their performance of Sacred Music Sacred Dance for World Healing on Friday, Jan. 25 at 9 p.m. in the Arts and Sciences Auditorium.
Sacred Music Sacred Dance for World Healing consists of two parts, with five and four sections within each part, respectively. This performance features “authentic temple dances, magnificent costumes, multi-phonic chanting and traditional Tibetan instruments,” Stephanie Farley of Mystical Arts of Tibet said. “This is a rare opportunity for a look into the Tibetan monastic culture, as these pieces are rarely seen outside the monasteries in which they are performed.”
Additionally, Friday Night Fever will be showing Argo, starring Ben Affleck, Bryan Cranston and John Goodman, at 6:30 p.m., 9 p.m., and 11:30 p.m. in the Union Family Room.
