The other day, I went to The Crowbar & Grill. Its my obvious choice. Where else to go, but The Crowbar? Nowhere, as far as I’m concerned. But on this occasion, I was not at the Crowbar for solely my own satisfaction. I was on a mission; to find out the story behind my favorite place in town.
While at The Crowbar, I had a great conversation with the co-owner of the Crowbar, Andy Glines. Andy Glines is not your typical business owner. He was a lot younger than I expected… His passion for beer and food is shared with his business partner, the other half of the co-owner duo, Justin Turner.
Both men originally came to Laramie for school at UW. Glines came to Laramie from his home town of Rapid City, South Dakota, while Turner had ventured from Craig, Colorado. Neither one went to school for business, or management, but graduated from UW in other fields completely.
So one thing led to another, eight years later, they own a grill/bar together, and it is one of the most popular places in town. Now, only over a year after opening, The Crowbar & Grill is thriving, with customers of all sorts frequenting the place. Many people frequent the bar for their variety of beer on tap alone.
“The beer revolution right now is so huge” commented Glines.
Glines and Turner, as former UW students themselves, were well aware of the lack of restaurants open late. This was one point out of many they wanted to change, a place to “eat downtown late” said Glines.
“Serve local food and do it really well” Glines added.
While I was there I wanted to try one of their new summer items on the menu, so I ordered the Summer Steak Salad. It was delicious, and refreshing; the perfect summer salad. It is made with grilled strawberries, steak, cherry tomatoes, goat cheese, and greens. All for the low price of eight dollars.
To drink, I ordered their Callahan Margarita. The Crowbar is famous for their homemade drinks. This Margarita is made with their house infused tequila made with strawberries, pineapple and jalapenos. It was a winner.
Some fun facts I learned during my time at The Crowbar are:
- The bartenders at the Crowbar are called Crow tenders.
- Their kitchen crew is called a murder. A murder is the name for a flock of crows.
