The all-woman band SHEL returns to perform its unique style of music during the University of Wyoming Summer Programs concert series Wednesday, July 31, from 11:45 a.m.-1 p.m. in Simpson Plaza.
SHEL consists of sisters Sarah, Hannah, Eva and Liza Holbrook, a quartet of classically trained musicians from Fort Collins, Colo. Experienced in a variety of instruments including violin, bass, piano, mandolin, cello and drums, the sisters of SHEL provide a sophisticated, yet youthful style of music that is both eccentric and entertaining.
“Nestled within SHEL’s enveloping sound are wisps of folk revival, vaudeville, renaissance fairs and steam-punk esthetic blur around one another,” says Patricia Rader, UW Summer Programs coordinator. “Their music is as beautiful as the players themselves. Their performance will be one of the best you have ever seen.”
According to a biography on the band’s website, the sisters were born within five years of each other. Raised and home-schooled by a professional songwriter father and an artist mother. In the early 2000s, they started working up and performing songs with their father.
The event is free and open to the public.
