When you think of libraries, the first thing that pops into the brain is a stack of books. You would not be wrong to think this, but at the Albany County Library much more can be found than just shelves of reading material. Changes both large and small are happening at the local Laramie library. Cindy Moore, county librarian, kindly sat down to discuss all that is going on at the library and all they have to offer the community.
One of the most notable changes that the Albany Co. Library is experiencing is the instillation of a new ceiling. “The addition of new ceiling really brightens up the whole library, we received a great grant to complete the project. It will be more energy efficient and will increase reflexivity,” said Moore. The ceiling is almost complete, with just a few more tiles to be installed.
The next renovation coming to the library will be the implementation of an RFID system. The system would streamline efficiency for the library’s inventory as well as put in a self-check out system.
“We are very excited about the RFID system, we are not a highly funded county, but with the voters of Albany County’s initiative to see this project happen we are able to bring it to the library. It will increase functionality and increase privacy for those who want that. We are very grateful to the voters who have made this project possible,” said Moore.
The services that the Albany County library provides to the community make it as unique as the changes that are happening.
For those who are concerned with tax day quickly approaching the library has partnered with the United Way of Albany County to bring tax forms and tax filing help for those who qualify. You can find out more information about the program at the Albany County Library, or by going to http://www.unitedwayalbanycounty.org.
Another new addition to the library’s reading materials are called Playaway. This new system is an all-in-one audio book that is smaller than a cell phone, but contains one book and all the buttons to control it on the back. The library only has a few of these portable devices, but is currently working to increase the size of their collection. Next time you want to get some reading in on the go, check out a Playaway from the library.
Some of the other events and activities that the library is currently offering include: family story time, all ages yoga, kids Lego club and gadget workshops. Some of these events do require registration so be sure to look at a full listing of activities and services that the library offers to the community each month click here.
