The Laramie Chamber Business Alliance would like to extend a large congratulations to Peak Wellness Center for being selected as the March Business of the Month! Each month one member of the Alliance is picked to receive this honor. The honoree will receive a certificate of achievement, a gift and a feature in the e-buzz and the blog Laramie Line. The Business of the Month is another way for LCBA to recognize it’s members and the contributions they make to the Laramie community.
Albany County Clinic Director, Dr. Carol Sprabery kindly sat down with LCBA to discuss Peak Wellness Center and what they do for the Laramie community. “As the community mental health center, we deal with the mental health issues of all citizens of Laramie and Albany County. We help people with everyday problems, all the way from kids who have problems in school to adults with chronic mental illness. We are really here to help everybody,” said Sprabery.
Peak Wellness Center has been in the Laramie community since 1959, and has grown into one of the best centers in the state who staff around 45 members. They offer many programs for youth and adults including: day counseling for youth, the only substance abuse treatment center the is certified by the state, drug court, adult mental health services, EAPs for businesses to help with problems and issues they may have with their employees, and help for chronically mentally ill citizens who to be able stay in the community.
“We have three apartment complexes in Laramie that allow us to work with and house 30 people and keep them out of mental hospitals. They have really just melted into the community and they are living good quality lives now,”said Sprabery.
Peak Wellness Center, according to their annual report, “Are committed to offering a comprehensive, balanced and coordinated system of community based services that respects and advocates for the individual dignity of our clients, and that produces meaningful improvements in quality of life for our clients and for our communities.”
“We are privileged to be forward thinking with what is happening now with mental health and how we are supposed to practice and what we are supposed to do to have the best practices. This means that we have to do what research says works best for people, and when you do talk therapy you are doing something that you know works,” said Sprabery.
The center also offer a variety of events, including a free Positive Aging Film series each month at the Laramie County Library in Cheyenne. The next showing is on April 11 with film “About Schmidt.” This summer they will be having their 2nd Annual Summer Wellness Summit on Saturday, June 28 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Laramie County Library in Cheyenne, this event will be family friendly and free to attend.
